How to root Android with Magisk?

Magisk is the best choice to get root and custom ROMs while still using Google services like Google Pay. The Magisk don’t touch a system partition, it only changes the boot. It’s also easy to install, but only if you have a custom recovery

How to get Root using Magisk guide

This file can be potentially dangerous. You can use it, but at your own risk.

Let’s take a look at how to get Root rights to Android if you have a custom Recovery, like TWRP or CWM. If you still have a stock recovery, just look at our guide on how to Install Custom Recovery.

Enable “Unknown Sources” on your Android: Settings > Security > Unknown Sources

  1. Download latest Magisk installer and Magisk Manager by this link
  2. Boot your phone into recovery mod
  3. Select install button and find the folder where you downloaded files
  4. Select and install the Magisk zip file by swiping the slider
  5. Reboot system
  6. Install the Magisk Manager app like usual apk

Now we just need to verify that Root is working properly. Launch the Magisk Manger and wanna see a bunch of green check marks. That means you have obtain the Root rights on your Android device.

If you already have Magisk installed with MagiskSU root

  1. Install / update the Magisk Manager app
  2. Install / update Magisk from Magisk Manager, restart the device

If you have some other root, while there is no root or Magisk Manager cannot be updated from Magisk Manager

  1. Get rid of a third-party root, if there is one (ask questions about this in the theme of this root or in the theme of the firmware of your device). If you have SuperSU, the easiest way is to flash the archive with the delete script
  2. Get rid of the old version of Magisk, if it is installed – flash the uninstaller Magisk-uninstaller-20180708.zip in the custom recovery. After the uninstaller firmware, it is advisable to make a wipe cache and dalwick cache
  3. Restore the stock kernel (reinstalling the kernel itself or reinstalling the entire firmware cleanly – your choice). Ask questions about this in the comment below or on the update page for your device
  4. Flash the archive with the current version of Magisk in your custom recovery
  5. Install the Magisk Manager application to manage Magisk and its modules

Uninstall Magisk from Android

  1. Flash in a custom recovery the uninstaller Magisk-uninstaller.zip. After the uninstaller is flashed, it is advisable to make a wipe cache and dalwick cache
  2. If your recovery is broken and uninstaller did not help, restore the stock kernel and manually delete /data/magisk.img, /cache/magisk, / data/busybox
  3. NB! Magisk makes a backup of the kernel in /data/stock_boot_<sha1>.img.gz before performing patching, so if you have problems you can always manually unpack the backup, flash the kernel in TWRP and return your device to life
  4. If after deleting the Magisk device hangs on the boot screen, because dm-verity is activated in the sink core, restore the stock partition / system or install an alternative root
